Second of two historic markers in a small pull-out along the US 271 east of Spiro OK tells the history of the Choctaw Agency. The marker reads as follows:
"CHOCTAW AGENCYT
LeFlore County
The first building to house Choctaw Indian agents at this location was completed in 1832. The village later was known as Skullyville where a new Choctaw constitution was adopted at a convention in 1857. Stage station for the Overland Mail to San Francisco 1858-1861. Leading Choctaws here included Tandy Walker, Edmund McCurtain, and Thos. D. Ainsworth."
