This plaque is dedicated to Stovall’s Brigade, commanded by Brig. Gen. Marcellus A. Stovall in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Sept. 20, 1863 at 9:30 am. This is one of three plaques to Stovall’s Brigade on the battlefield.

To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Reed’s Bridge Road, follow the path south to the marker.

Text on the plaque reads:
No. 32-B
C

Stovall’s Brigade.
Breckinridge’s Division – Hill’s Corps.
Brig. Gen. Marcellus A. Stovall.
Sept. 20, 1863, 9:30 A. M. , 1st Position.

1st and 3rd Florida - Col. Wm. S. Dilworth.
4th Florida - Col. W. L. L. Bowen.
47th Georgia - Capt. Wm. S. Phillips.
60th North Carolina - Lieut. Col. James M. Ray.
Mebane’s (Tenn.) Battery - Capt. John W. Mebane.

Stovall’s Brigade, being the center of Breckinridge’s Division, advanced from a line 400 yards east of this position at 9 o’clock A.M. with Admas’ Brigade on its right, and Helm’s on its left. From this line it advanced to the Lafayette road, encountering a portion of John Beatty’s Brigade of Negley’s Division, and forcing it across the road. The Brigade then changed direction to face south, and, with Admas’ Brigade west of the road, and on its right, advanced toward the Kelly Field.

Note
Trailhead Graphics, Inc. has produced a map of the Chickamauga Battlefield showing the locations of all of the monuments and the markers on the battlefield. Each location on the map has a number associated with it that cross-references to an index on the back of the map that has the name of the marker (called the Chick-Chatt NMP monument numbering system). This number corresponds to the structure Number listed on the NPS List of Classified Structures that is normally prefixed with the letters MT for the Chickamauga Battlefield.
