These time capsules, "the time capsules EXPO'70", are buried here on the occasion of the Japan World Exposition in 1970. They contain 2098 items that represent the most advanced technologies and the everyday life in the year 1970 including the natural science, society, and the art.
There are two capsules, the upper and the lower capsules. The lower capsule will be opened after 5000 years, that means in 6970. The upper capsule was already opened and closed again in 2000, it will then be opened every 100 years until 6970.
