This cut mark is on the side of a stone arch bridge that carries Manchester Road over the canal.

The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.
Many of the bridges on the canal have cut marks on them, but not all of them, including this one are on the OS website.
This cut mark is on the side of the bridge next to the canal towpath. It is half way up the side of the bridge next to the top of the fourth stone in the arch.
A modern green metal footbridge has been added to the side of the stone road bridge and the cut mark is underneath it.
