This park hosts several annual events, such as an Easter Egg Hunt and Canada Day Festivities, as well as various summer events, such as pancake breakfasts. The park has the only water park in town and a bandshell which hosts music in the park evenings through the summer.
Beside the water park is a children's playground and the park is also home to a small rose garden dedicated to
Princess Di. The rose garden is at the western edge of the park, south of the bandshell and north of the mass of picnic tables. Relatively new, the garden needs a few more years to mature. To add colour through the summer, annuals are added to the garden each year and there are a few perennials to supplement the roses. We happened to visit just as the roses and many of the annuals were finishing their bloom, so it wasn't a terribly colourful garden during our visit.
The accompanying plaque reads as follows:
Lady Diana, Princess of Wales
1961 - 1997
The rose garden in this park was made possible through funding from the Province of British Columbia and Elton John in Memory of Diana, Princess of Wales. Funds were derived from the sale of the Elton John song "Candle in The Wind"
Diana will be forever remembered for her loving generosity. Her caring made the world a better place and her magic touched all our hearts.
