In South Kingstown, on the main campus of the University of Rhode Island, is this tree dedicated to J. Morgan Briggs a history professor.

The campus is located off Campus Avenue, which runs east-west. At a traffic light where there is a granite sign for URI, turn right onto Upper College Road. We parked in a public lot east of the Fine Arts Building. The quad is west of Upper College Road, behind a row of grey buildings. The waymark is toward the southeastern corner of the quad.

There is a post next to a tree with two plaques on it, one identifying the tree as part of the Everett Arboretum on campus, the other identifying the person dedicated.

The tree is about 20 ft high and, according to the plaque, is a Summer Sprite Littleleaf Linden. It is inventory number 150 within the Christopher Memorial Arboretum.

The plaque states the following:

"In memory of
J. Morgan Briggs
1930 - 2005

From the URI/AAUP"

The following was found on a URI publication website:

"J. Morton Briggs, Jr., a professor emeritus of history, died June 6 in Wakefield. A former chair of the history department, he also was past president of the URI chapter of the American Association of University Professors and a former member of the South Kingstown Town Council."
Location of the tree: Within the main campus of URI, near the along the eastern side of the quad.

Type of tree: Summer Sprite Littleleaf Linden
