The pub sign, that hangs from a wall of the building, shows a picture of Nelson's ship "Victory" in Portsmouth harbour. The sails are furled, the accommodation ladderr is down and a lighter can be seen approaching the ship. A large white ensign flies from the stern of HMS Victory.
This picture is unusual in that most paintings of HMS Victory show her with sails billowing out as she heads into battle. This one is quite sedate by comparison!
How do we know this is HMS Victory in Portsmouth? It says so in the bottom left corner!
