In the Kingston Campus of the University of Rhode Island is this planetarium building.

The Kingston campus is the main campus for the public university. The planetarium is located at the junction of Upper College Road and Lippett Road and next to the engineering building. Parking is available a little ways away. We parked to the east of the Fine Arts Building.

The planetarium is a solitary structure with a typical domed portion with an entrance to one side. I see no sign planted in the grounds to state what it is. There is a piece of paper with the following text next to the entrance:

"The University of Rhode Island Planetarium, one of the smallest freestanding planetariums in the world, was dedicated in 1951. The building is 16 feet in diameter and has seating for 20. The structure was originally west of Taft Hall, but in the early ---, with the expansion of the University Library, it was moved to its present location at the corner of Upper College Road and Engineering Row, just north of East Hall.

The planetarium's projector has changed through the ages, from the original Spitz A which cost $175 to a more modern Viewlex in the '60s, to a Starlab system in the early 2000s, to the present Evans & Sutherland Digistar Model 3. The purchase of the $150,000 Digistar system in 2005 was made possible due to a generous grant from the Champin Foundation. This system is capable not only of projecting and demonstrating how the night sky changes, but can also project movies in the planetarium dome.

The planetarium serves the Physics Department's Astronomy and Physics students as well as public groups and school children of all ages."
