A very cool boundary stone benchmark marks the border between the United States and the lands awarded to the Choctaw Nation by the Treaty of Washington, whereby the Choctaw would cede ancestral lands in the eastern US that were coveted by white settlers to the US Government in exchange for land in Indian Territory.
This stone was set in 1858 to mark the initial point of the border survey between the US and Choctaw lands. Though long ago overcome by events, it still stands today on the grounds of the Fort Smith National Historic Site in Ft Smith AR.
