The tree has a protective wire cage around it and is supported by the posts set into the ground. Straps connect the tree to the posts to give it additional support. As the cage, posts and straps look reasonably new, as does the tree, this looks like a recent addition to the gardens.
The plaque, at the base of the tree, does not give a date and there is no further information available that explains who these two ladies were. The inscription reads:
