"Once there had been more than 20 mills in this area.
The post mill in Altensien was one of them. In 2006, the last master builder of mills in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had rebuilt it according to historical depictions. Hints by farmer Erwin Schälke, who knows how to grind corn from his childhood, helped the construction to become authentic. With an exhibition and certain events the mill site nowadays promotes this traditional craft. In the former toolshed, the history of mills is revived. On weekly baking days in summer, delicious bread is made for visitors in a wood-burning oven and after traditional Pomeranian recipes."
