Residing in the SW corner of a parking lot is an insect sculpture depicting a grasshopper playing a cello. This piece was created by artist Janet Higgins in 2004 and is made of welded steel. This public sculpture was the first to be introduced to the city of Grants Pass and funded by the
Art Along the Rogue organization. It was dedicated by the then mayor and sat next to the post office downtown. Frequent vandalizing of the piece caused the city to move it to its current location in the parking lot of the Grower's Market.
I located a website that contains a bio on the artist here. Higgins is an art instructor at Rogue River Community College. She is also responsible for creating a number of bear sculptures that populate the city.
