Riverside Park in Kamloops was begun in 1905, on the former site of a lumber mill and a pig farm. Since its inception it has been the major park in the city, with the greatest number of amenities. It is far and away the most used park in the city.

Riverside Park is called Riverside Park because it is beside the river, the Thompson River, which becomes one right at the park. as the North and South Thompson rivers converge at this place. The park is along the south side of the river while the North Thompson enters from the opposite side.

Just upriver of the confluence, in the eastern third of the park is a good sized beach, probably 90% man made. On the beach is a roped off swimming area with NO lifeguards on duty. It is a broad beach with washrooms and changing rooms nearby, as well as picnic facilities and a nearby playground.
