The American Legion Post 28 resides in a small building but it is maintained very well. There is an Honor Wall located in front as well as a flagpole and a silhouette sculpture of a soldier kneeling down in front of a cross/grave.
The history of this post from their website reads:
The Post first started as a Soldiers and Sailors Club in 1919. It was later chartered as the American Legion Post 28 in 1920 by a returning group of W W 1 veterans.
They bought the present property from Dr. Bailey in 1944 at the cost of $5,000 by putting up bonds of between $25 and $100 each. At that time the post had slot machines and a restaurant that was doing well, so they called in the bonds, over half of the members threw them away.
They later bought the lot next door for $1,000 and made a parking lot.
In 1947 a group of WW2 Veterans built the main meeting room and used it as a restaurant seating area, there was a bar in the area where the Ladies Auxiliary meets now, The WW1 and WW2 veterans made many changes over the years and now its our turn.
