This quote is from a "Letter from a Birmingham Jail", written on 16 April 1963, while Martin Luther King, Jr. was jailed for non-violent protest. It makes for an interesting read in that many African-American leaders were quite concerned that the tactics used by King's followers would not be successful and would, in fact, further degrade civil rights.
