"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

This quote is from a "Letter from a Birmingham Jail", written on 16 April 1963, while Martin Luther King, Jr. was jailed for non-violent protest. You may find the entire text of the letter at (visit link) . It makes for an interesting read in that many African-American leaders were quite concerned that the tactics used by King's followers would not be successful and would, in fact, further degrade civil rights. The quote is found in many other of King's speeches and writings (visit link) .

"The Letter from Birmingham Jail (also known as "Letter from Birmingham City Jail" and "The Negro Is Your Brother") is an open letter written on April 16, 1963, by Martin Luther King, Jr. The letter defends the strategy of nonviolent resistance to racism, arguing that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust laws.

The letter was widely published and became an important text for the American civil rights movement of the early 1960s." (from (visit link) )
