'This footbridge was originally manufactured by
W. Richards & Son, Leicester,
to a drawing dated 1 March 1893 for the London,
Brighton and South Coast Railway. It stood at
Dorset Road, Merton Park Station, on the
Wimbledon to West Croydon line until it became
redundant in 1998 as a result of the building of
the Croydon Tram Link along the original
alignment. It was donated to the Swanage Railway
with two other bridges and transported to St.
Leonards, Dorset for extension, reduction in
height and renovation prior to being re-erected
here at Corfe Castle Station.
The Corfe Castle Footbridge
was formally opened by
Mr David Quarmby CBE,
Chairman Strategic Rail Authority 2004 - 2006
on 28 April 2007.'
