The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.
This bridge is known as a change line bridge because its purpose is to carry the tow path from one side of the canal to the other.
It was probably originally built around 1794 when the canal was extended from Gargrave to Burnley. However it was rebuilt around 2008.
link. It would originally have been built in stone, but these days is concrete with stone cladding.
