The Korean War Memorial is part of the Memorial Gardens located just beside the Cenotaph on the Cairns Esplanade.

The Memorial Gardens were created to acknowledge the valuable contribution made by volunteers, emergency service works and military service men and women. The Memorial Flame artwork situated at the northern extremity of the Memorial Gardens, has been placed in remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of their duties.
The inscription reads
"Korean War 1950 - 1953
Australia was one of the first Nations to contribute Navy, Army and Air Force Units to the United Nations to fight communist forces which invaded South Korea.
It was a bitter war involving mass human wave attacks by the enemy and fought in extreme summer heat and winter temperatures below zero.
There was a total of 1584 Australian casualties including 339 who lost their lives."
