A memorial tree with a plaque and and a memorial alongside with the names of the West Australians who did not return, located on the side of a path through the trees of Kings Park.
Over 3400 Australian and British POWs incarcerated at Borneo died at Sandakan and other POW camps. The deaths were as a result of enforced marches, neglect, starvation, mass executions and from various tropical diseases with no treatment provided.
