Crossing the Pack River north of Sandpoint is a railroad bridge with a nice fish painted on it.

Just east of Highway 2, 8½ miles north of Ponderay, this bridge is easily seen from the highway and even has a little lane leading in to it. Now a Burlington Northern Bridge, this bridge was likely a part of the Great Northern Railroad, which built the line through the area in 1892. The bridge appears as though it is an original, from ca. 1892. It carries the rail line over the Pack River.
We're going to guess that this is, at certain times of the year, a good fishing spot, with easy access just feet off Highway 2. Another guess is that at sometime in the past they weren't biting so an artistically inclined angler took advantage of a lull in the action to wander up to the wing wall of the bridge to invoke the good graces of the fishing gods by painting a likeness of his intended prey. The wing wall faces the highway, making the fish easily seen while whizzing by. It's a well done fish, looks a bit like a salmon if one uses one's imagination.
