7th Battalion Mississippi Infantry has this one major marker on the Vicksburg Battlefield. This is a typical grey granite slab marker of the Mississippi units.
7th Infantry Battalion was organized during the early spring of 1862 near Quitman, Mississippi. The unit was assigned to Hebert's Brigade, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and was captured when Vicksburg fell. After the exchange the battalion then served in Mackall's and Sears' Brigade. Few were included in the surrender in May, 1865. The field officers were Lieutenant Colonels L. B. Pardue and James S. Terral, and Major Joel E. Welborn.
