The clock is mounted in the stone facade of the building and is flanked by wreaths and female supporters reclining on the pediment scrolls. The enormous clock at the entrance to Victoria Station in London is surrounded by elaborate sculptures. The carved white limestone contrasts beautifully with the red sandstone of the building below and the black slate of the roof. It was constructed in 1907 as part of the rebuilt Grosvenor Hotel at the station entrance for the Brighton line. The reconstruction of the station and the hotel was managed by Charles Morgan, the London Brighton & South Coast railway company's chief engineer.
The face is round with a white background. The marks for the hours and minutes are pressed from a single piece of metal and are held together by three rings. The outer pair of rings hold the minute marks and the inner pair the hour marks which are Roman numerals. All the rings and markings are coloured black. The hands are of a simple design and without tails and they too are coloured black.
