Monson Township is named for Peter Monson, a Swedish homesteader. The township was organized in 1881. Monson Township is north of Wheaton, the county seat. The township is bisected by U.S. Highway 75, and its western edge is the Bois de Sioux River, which is the boundary with South Dakota.
