The bridge known as Greenberfield Bridge carries Coates Lane over the canal and was built around 1796 when the canal was extended from Gargrave to Burnley. The cut mark is on the outer edge of the bridge which is painted white. The cut mark is painted black and so it really stands out.
The following details were obtained from the
OS website
and typing the following coordinates 53,55,44.80,W,2,10,26.75.
Square | Easting | Northing | Mark type | Description | Height | Order | Datum | Verified year | Levelling year | Metres above ground |
SD | 8866 | 4813 | BOLT | P A BOLT GREENBER FIELD BR NW SIDE CANAL SW FACE | 150.126 | 3 | 'N' | 1962 | - | 1.400 |
There is a discrepancy on the OS website as it states that it is a bolt, but as can be seen from the pictures on this waymark it is a cut mark with rivet.
