Chappell Hill's NRHP Main Street Historic District is an area covering 36 buildings, most of them built between 1850 and 1915 and reflecting the many variations in architectural style within that period in history. For more information on this particular Historic District, please see the following waymark: (visit link)

The founding of the town of Chappell Hill is contributed to Mary Hargrove Haller who purchased a 100-acre site in this part of Texas on February 2, 1847 and subsequently commissioned a survey and the plotting of town lots. Just three years later, Mary Haller and her husband Jacob began building a two-story frame house now known as the "Stagecoach Inn" at the northwest corner of the center of that new town.

Towards the southern end of the district lies the J. J. Shaver Residence, a Colonial Revival house built in 1914 and reflecting the "latter era" of the district's overall 1850-1915 time period: it was recently renovated by its current owners, Clay and Cathy Parker, and it is alluded that its meticulously restored fine interior can be visited during the Chappell Hill home tour during the Holiday season (although I could not find any quotable evidence to confirm this).

Per the Texas Historical Commission Atlas records, the house includes the following features:

"Constructed by a local contractor J. B. Heartfield in 1914, this two-story, asymmetrical, Colonial Revival residence reflects classical influence in its detailing. Wide encircling front porch is supported by Ionic columns resting on brick piers. Wooden-slat balustrade encloses porch. Pedimented porch entrance leads to single front entry door in projecting bay. Corresponding projecting pediment with elliptical arch window and pair of tall, brick, end chimneys rise from composition hip roof. Windows appear in pairs, except on lower floor where there is a set of triple windows. Exterior is of clapboard siding with corner boards. Projecting cornice with paired wooden brackets. Screened porch at rear of house. Interior features decoratively carved and paired square columns resting on paneled tables and a handsome staircase. Minimal changes, including the installation of a rear bathroom and central air and heating systems, have rendered the house virtually unaltered. Detached metal carport added in front in 1976, and is noncontributing."
