This station, a National Geodetic Survey standard vertical control mark, is located in Newtown, CT. It is positioned off the east side of CT Rt.25, approximately halfway between U.S. Rt.6 and Interstate Rt.84, and set in the south end of a concrete headwall of a large culvert:

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1985 2.6 KM (1.6 MI) SE FROM DANBURY. 2.3 KM (1.45 MI) SOUTHEAST ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 6 FROM THE INTERSECTION OF OLD HAWLEYVILLE ROAD IN DANBURY, THENCE 0.3 KM (0.15 MI) NORTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 25 TO THE MARK ON THE RIGHT, IN TOP OF THE SOUTH END OF THE EAST HEADWALL FOR A DOUBLE BOX CULVERT OVER POND BROOK, 20.57 METERS (67.5 FT) EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 14.50 METERS (47.6 FT) NORTHEAST OF UTILITY POLE 3607, 14.23 METERS (46.7 FT) EAST OF A STEEL CABLE GUARD RAIL, 0.24 METER (0.8 FT) NORTH OF THE SOUTH END OF THE HEADWALL. THE MARK IS 3.05 M BELOW HIGHWAY.

The description is accurate, but the station area has been consumed in overgrowth, making the approach to the mark extremely difficult. At the time of recovery, I was fortunate enough to discover that surveyor crews finally came down and cleared the bushes away with saws and knives, opening up access to the mark, but it is still a bit messy. If you choose to visit this mark, go in the cold weather months, and use caution. Approaching the mark from the north end of the culvert proved simplest.
