The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.

Armley Mills were at on time the largest woollen mills in the world, and Benjamin Gott, the owner of the mill lived in a large house on the other side of the canal. This bridge carried the drive to his house

The bridge has a basket arch with a triple keystone and is an English Heritage Grade II Listed Building. link

Just in front of one side of the bridge is a structure to carry pipes across the canal.
