"Formerly in the collection of Wilson, James, Dr. & Mrs., Central Avenue & Main Street, Owego, New York"
"The lions originally stood outside a home in New York City. Sometime before 1889, they were purchased by Dr. James Wilson as a present for his wife (who was fond of the sculptures that she passed every day as a girl walking to school). When she married Dr. Wilson, he purchased the lions for her and placed them in front of his new house in Owego, New York. He died in 1889 and she died in 1908. After their death, the lions were removed and the house was sold. Years later, the lions were rediscovered in an Owego cellar and installed at the courthouse. IAS files contain an excerpt from "Seasons of Change," edited by Ed. Thomas McEnteer and scrapbook article, June 1, 1916, from files at Tioga Historical Society (Front Street, Owego, NY)."
