The walk starts at the information board & is best done in the early morning or late afternoon. Initially the pathway is broad & well maintained but as you progress it becomes narrow & rough as it ascends the hill to the Merimbula Trig Station (survey marker). There are several short walks off the main track & I chose Lobster Bay as the place I'd like to share.
Other points of interest along the way include the wreck of the S.S. Merimbula, Mermaids Inlet where fishers can catch marlin off the rocks, a spooky cave you can crawl through to see the ocean & an aboriginal rock shelter.
I'd suggest doing the walk in an anti-clockwise direction as the walk from the ocean to the trig station is quite steep on occasions. You can take your dog for the walk as well provided it is on a leash.
Lobster Bay is a rocky reef-filled bay, on the western side of which is a 120 metre long section of sheltered sand. The waters are crystal clear & popular with snorkelers. The rocky foreshore is worth exploring. The beach is little used due to the distance from the carpark (a 500 metres walk) & the steps so you may have it to yourself.
The other co-ordinates are for the Trig Station & the cave. The trig is beside the walk whereas you need to take a side track to the cave which is sign posted.
