The sculpture is made predominantly of welded sheet steel, with hair and beard apparently crafted from lengths of welding rod. A work of Lyndon Fayne Pomeroy, a Born and raised Montana artist, this larger than life piece depicts Jesus Christ with arms outstretched in a long, flowing robe. The piece was created in 1974. At approximately 12 feet in height, it is essentially twice life size.

See a short biography on Lyndon below.
Lyndon Pomeroy
Lyndon Pomeroy was born in Sidney, Montana and went to school in Collins, Kalispell, and Ferdig. Ferdig was a little town just north of Shelby, Montana. He moved with his family to Havre and graduated from high school where upon he entered the Army Air Corps. "I began using Ivory soap, and I recall my first subject was a horse," he says. "I probably sold him for a few nickels. Maybe gave him away."

Lyndon taught at Montana State University-Billings when it was Eastern Montana College for three years after earning his degree from Montana State University in Bozeman. "But I kicked that habit in 1961," he says with a chuckle, emphasizing his belief that, "if you're an artist, that's how you make your living. If you don't earn your keep with it, it's your hobby," he insists.

I have known Lyndon Pomeroy for about twenty years now, he would always come out and critique my welded metal sculpture. Often we would both comment on how artists can learn so much from others work. Of course Lyndon's trademark is definitely his bib overalls which are his work clothes and as he explained, "Now I know ‘cowboys' who wear costumes and have never been on a horse."
