Linkville Pioneer Cemetery is home to many of Klamath Falls' pioneers and settlers of the area. The cemetery is also home to some of the most unusual Woodmen of the World headstones I've come across. This particular headstone reads:

FRED T. SANDERSON
JUNE 29, 1912

I located an obituary for Fred from FindaGrave.com and reads:

KLAMATH REPUBLICAN, JULY 4, 1912
FUNERAL WILL BE HELD SATURDAY
BODY OF THE LATE FRED T. SANDERSON WILL ARRIVE KLAMATH FALLS ON WEDNESDAY EVENING

Judge George Noland, Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge has received notice from Ashland that the body of the late Fred T. Sanderson will arrive in Klamath Falls on the Wednesday evening train, and that the funeral is to be held Saturday. The services will be under the auspices of Klamath lodge No. 77 A.F.& A.M. according to the ritual of the Masonic order.

Shortly after the news of the unexpected death of the former mayor it was announced in the Herald Saturday evening. It was the one topic of conservation throughout the entire city. Expressions of the deepest regret were held on all sides, and it has been some time since anything has occurred that has caused as great a shock to the people of this city as the sudden passing away of Mr. Sanderson.

Mr. Sanderson and wife went to Ashland about two weeks ago, where an operation was performed on his knee, which had been causing him trouble for some time. It was announced by the doctors that he had appendicitis and he agreed to an operation. The second operation occurred at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, and apparently he underwent the ordeal successfully, and friends in this city did not have the least idea but that his recovery would be rapid. The possibility of his death was so unexpected that many of his closest friends could not belive but that there had been some mistake in the message.

KLAMATH REPUBLICAN, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON
JULY 11, 1912
The funeral services of the late F.T. Sanderson were held Saturday afternoon, during which time all of the stores and business houses of the city were closed. Services at the house were conducted by Rev. Geo. H. Feese of the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church. At the grave the ritualistic services of the Masons were used.

The body was followed to the cemetery by one of the largest gatherings ever known in this city. The mayor and city officials, members of the old council and police officers in uniform were in line, as were also the members of the Masonic Order, Woodsmen of the World and other lodges to which the deceased belonged.

This is the first WoW headstone I've come across that contains an anchor on the headstone. I don't know what the significance of the anchor relates to Fred.

Was the inscription legible?: Yes
