The church was built from 1906 to 1909 according to plans by the architect Franz Schwechten from Berlin.
Upon completion in 1909 they said that this building was the most beautiful church in the Rheinland.
In World War II the church was partly distroyed (1943).
Rebuilding took place 1948 to 1955.
