This historic home at 601 West Broadway, Clarksville, Texas was completed in 1897 by Charles David Lennox, Sr. and his wife Sallie Bagby Lennox. Mrs. Lennox’s grandfather, Albert Hamilton Latimer, was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The Lennox family amassed their wealth in banking, ranching, farming, timber and later oil and gas production.
The home is built in the Victorian style known as Queen Anne. Renovations in 1917 added the portico, the downstairs sunroom, upstairs sleeping porch and garage, as well adding the tile on the porch.
Mr. and Mrs. Lennox had four children, three of whom lived to adulthood. Their names were Charles David, Jr., Arthur Bagby, and Martha Washington.
Upon the death of David and Bagby in 1989 and Martha’s death in 1993, the home and entire contents were given to the Historical Society. Their Foundation provided funds over $500,000 for the restoration of the home.
The home is decorated much as a family home would be and is very livable. All contents in the home are Lennox family items and include items from their travels throughout the western United States.
