Born at Mittagong in 1916, Harry Springett was a patriarch of Bowral’s prominent Springett family, responsible for the establishment of numerous business and community ventures within the district including Springetts’ Arcade and Bowral Tulip Time.
In 1976, he received an MBE for his 38 years service to the community through Local Government.
He served on Bowral Municipal Council from 1946 to 1980, including a record term of 11 years as mayor and nine years as deputy mayor.
The rotunda is located in Corbett Gardens which are famous for their display of tulips over Spring & mature trees.
Jim Tuddenham was a councillor when the Wingecarribee Shire Council was formed in 1981 with the amalgamation of Mittagong, Bowral & the former Wingecarribee Shire Council. He served on council until the 1999 elections were held. He was the Mayor for two terms from September 1995 to September 1997. He also served for a year as deputy Mayor.
He was a delegate to the then Illawarra County Council, Deputy Director on the Illawarra County Council, a Director on the Board of the Bowral and District Hospital and Chairman of the Moss Vale Livestock Centre Management Board.
He died in Mildura on 14 November 2008, aged 87.
