Armed with a surprising lack of evidence to the contrary, we will here assume that The Pilot has published continuously for all of its 110 years of existence. Established in 1904, it serves the 6,500 or so citizens of Whitefish and surrounding Lake County in northwest Montana. It is headquartered in a small wood frame building that could conceivably be as old as the paper itself, which causes us to wonder how long they've been ensconced within said building.
The Pilot office is on the north side of East Second Street, midway between Lupfer and Baker Avenues. East Second is also Highway 93 as it passes through town, so the paper's editor need not even step outside to glean such statistics as local traffic volumes, the relative number of tourists in town and the state of the local logging industry.
