Located at what's known as the 'Memorial Quad' is a plaque monumented in the NW corner that reads:

Through doing some online research I discovered that the property that the Memorial Quad sits on was once part of an athletic field known as Kincaid Field. I located a webpage that highlights the history of this former field that you can read about here.
