This is the site for Beechworth's original independent branch of the Postal Service that served as the telegraph service (Morse code) from 1858. It also housed the Lands and Survey Office.

While the Beechworth Post Office building is now just around the corner this still holds demonstrations in Morse code, and boasts that it is the busiest telegraph office in the Southern hemisphere, being able to send telegraphs to anywhere in Australia.
