Originally built in 1961 by the US Forest Service as a simple three-sided concrete block enclosure with metal roof. In 2010, the Tennessee Eastman Hiking & Canoeing Club renovated the Curley Maple Gap shelter to greatly expand its capacity. Thanks to LL Bean for the grant which purchased the materials.

Water is available from a spring located 100 feet trail-south.

There is no privy or bear pole.

Next trailhead northbound is Indian Grave Gap. Southbound is either the outfitter along the Nolichucky River or the highway bridge crossing the same on south side of Erwin, TN.
Type: Shelter
