This Cut-mark is on the west face of the south-west corner-stone of the Corn Exchange building, built 1861/2.

The Corn Exchange building is Grade II listed, built 1861-62, designed by Ellis and Woodard, architects of Fenchurch Street, London, the contractor was Lot Jackaman of Bury St.Edmunds with ironwork by Ransomes and Sims of Ipswich. Constructed in white brick and freestone, probably Ancaster, with Portland stone for the bases of the pillars, the wings and portico have slate roofs whilst the central hall has a glazed roof with cast-iron glazing bars and a decorated central plaster panel.

An upper floor was inserted just below the level of the cast-iron capitals in 1969 and the lower storey now contains shops on the site of the old town Shambles. The upper floor is now a Weatherspoons restaurant, having been refurbished by them in June 2012.

The cut-mark is 48.303m above the Newlyn datum, was last verified in 1974 and is 0.500m above ground.
