A pink granite Texas Historical marker, dated 1957, stands at the grave of William Becknell in Becknell Cemetery, near Clarksville, TX. Becknell is considered to be the father of the Santa Fe Trail.

Becknell Cemetery is also known as Robbinsville Cemetery, bearing the name of local settler, John Robbins, who gave his name to a community here. This cemetery is all that is left of Robbinsville.

Born in Virginia, 1797. Pioneered the Santa Fe Trail. Served in the Army of the Republic of Texas. Died 1865. Erected by the State of Texas 1957.
