This chapel is unique in that it is half-buried underground and almost entirely covered by grasses with the exception of its front. There is no signage as the site but it is on the grounds and adjacent to Skalholt Cathedral....formerly the site of one of Iceland's two bishoprics...once Catholic and now Lutheran. The chapel is obviously newly constructted... the cut wood can still be smelled.
The interior is bare...seating is just on benches which surround the sides with a central altar and the only window..a tiny one near the ceiling over the altar.
The site is open to the public free of charge daily 9 to 6.
