In the 1950's, a pavement clock was installed near here, by the jeweller and clockmaker Sir Cyril Dyson (clockmaker for the Queen), just outside his business. That clock received considerable attention over the years, but was removed sometime in the mid-to-late 1980s, "for maintenance". and its whereabouts are no longer known. A newspaper article published to document the installation of the replacement pavement clock indicated Cllr Rayner, (a lead member for highways and streetcare in Windsor and Maidenhead), said "the whereabouts of the original clock is unknown".
The pavement clock was not replaced until 28 January, 2011. On that date, a replacement clock was unveiled by Mayor Cllr Catherine Bursnall at an official ceremony, when it was also announced that a TIME CAPSULE had been placed under the replacement clock, and to quote, Cllr Rayner said: "In 50 years' time when they have to maintain the clock for the first time they'll see what Windsor life was like in 2010 and 2011."
It is thought that the pavement clock is the only one in Britian.
