In Bethlehem's downtown area is the Historic Moravian Bethlehem Historic District.

The district covers an area from Monocacy Creek to about two blocks along West Church Street. At the center is the Central Moravian Church. A plaque is mounted on a brick wall facing Main Street. The plaque states the following:

"Historic Moravian Bethlehem Historic District
has been designated a
NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK
This site possesses national significance in commemorating the history of the United States of America

In the 18th Century, Moravian settlers from Europe established a communal society here as part of an international religious network and social experiment. The surviving buildings and industrial structures are outstanding examples of German colonial architecture and Moravian town planning.

National Park Service
United States Department of the Interior
Designated 2012."

The buildings in this district stand out since their appearance is very different from other buildings. Most of the buildings in this district are made of stone. One exception is the Central Moravian Church, which is wood. A partial list of buildings included are the Tannery, the Waterworks, the several parts of the Sisters building, the Brethren building, and the Central Moravian Church.

Unfortunately, the various NPS government web sites related to the National Register of Historic Places appears to be behind. I didn't see an entry for this district on the web site. Also, another page haa the agenda for the meeting in Spring 2012 with links to the draft version of the nomination form. Much of the information used to fill in the fields below were from the Central Bethlehem Historic District, which overlaps this area.
