This is the kind of town in which one would be not at all surprised to see local fauna prowling the streets.

This herd of elk was found with one scratching himself on a tree while the other looked on in Broadway Street, right in downtown Philipsburg. This was a small herd, consisting of two, both bucks. Of course downtown Philipsburg is not much more than a half mile from wilderness. They look like bronze elk, but could also be fibreglass elk. Unfortunately, there was neither signature nor sign to be found to tell us of their maker.
Our elk stand in a small plaza between two buildings on the south side of Broadway Street, two doors west of Sansome Street.
