With daily x 6 trains heading 'South', and x 6 heading 'North' the Taree station would not be considered busy, but the link is vital for many commuters.

While the train line from Sydney/Newcastle to Dungog had been opened in 1911, it wasn't until 5th February 1913 that the service was extended to Taree. Some ~ x 20 stations have been closed completely, with a couple being unmanned, eg Wingham.
The ~ 74 km of train line from Taree to Wauchope was opened 12 April, 1915. And it wasn't until ~1930 that the line was completed through to Queensland where there was different width in their train track, so passengers had to change trains at the border.
While the RailLink office is open from 7 am to 7 pm there is a 24 hour help line to order tickets.
