Near the "G" on the hill is the number"14", also of white rocks and about the same size as the "G". Granite County was founded in 1893 and named for Granite Mountain, the mountain on which the silver strike was made which led to the creation of Philipsburg and Granite County.
Philipsburg has always been the county seat of this, one of the least populated counties in the state. There are three towns in Granite county, Philipsburg, Drummond and Hall, with a combined population of just over 3,000. There are more ghost towns in the county than towns.
Coordinates given are from a good viewpoint, at the northeast corner of the cemetery.
