Progress was created by Lee Lawrie in 1937. This gilded and polychrome limestone Art Deco bas-relief sculpture is about 9' square. It depicts, as the the central figure, Columbia carrying an olive branch of peace and a bowl of flames, symbolizing power. She stands behind an eagle, which is landing, and before the mythological winged horse, Pegasus, which is taking off into flight.
