The railway station of Ilanz (Glion is the Romansh name) is the major public transport hub in the Surselva region.
The station was built in 1903 as the final stop of the Vorderrhein line to Chur. In 1912 the line was extended to Disentis, where it connected to Furka-Oberalp-Bahn. The whole line was electrified in 1922.
The station is a stop of RegioExpress and regional trains from Disentis to Chur. From Ilanz eight bus lines connect to the surrounding villages.
Also freight traffic is important here, especially bottled water from the mineral spring in Vals.
