The parish was organized in 1889, with construction of the church beginning in 1892. The fourth denomination to construct a church in Philipsurg, theirs was the first Catholic parish in Granite County. The building was completed in 1894 and has remained in continuous use to this day. This church practices the Roman Rite.

"This parish was organized in 1889, and is the first to be established in Granite County. The present church edifice at Philipsburg was erected in 1892, but the first services were held at Granite. The parish now includes Southern Cross, Deerlodge County, and Father Meade ministers to the needs of 400 Catholics. The parsonage adjoins the church, which is on the corner of Carney (possibly a misspelling, today known as Kearney) and Franklin streets."
From the 1921 History of Montana, page 118
