This area of downtown Ashland is known as Calle Guanajuato Park. Calle Guanajuato is an important pedestrian walkway located behind the Plaza that honors both the natural beauty of Ashland Creek and Ashland’s sister city relationship with Guanajuato, Mexico.
The Arnie Krigel Memorial Sculpture Garden is adjacent to the Calle Guanajuato stairway which links the pedestrian walkway adjacent to the creek and the neighborhood above the plaza and is dedicated to one of Ashland’s first Public Art Commissioners. The Sculpture Garden includes two pedestals to accommodate sculptures suitable for outdoor display in a wide range of weather conditions. The Public Art Commission installs new sculptures every two years.
When I passed by this Sculpture Garden, I noticed a sculpture by artist Keven Christman. Although the title says 'Inorganic Compound' it is representing organic shapes utilizing inorganic substances (bronze and stone), a nice play on words. I thought this sculpture was intriguing and wonder where it will go to after it's fulfilled its timeframe in this Sculpture Garden.
